Texas-based Bakery-Café Expands to Meet Growing Demand for Kolaches in Cali

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (December 3, 2021) – Kolache Factory, a unique and fast-growing national pastry franchise chain based in Katy, Texas, has opened its newest location in Huntington Beach. It is the second Kolache Factory store in California. The new store is open for business at 6502 Bolsa Avenue, Huntington Beach, CA 92647.

The kolache bakery-café chain is a cult favorite in Texas and hit the west coast eight years ago with its first location in Tustin. It specializes in the savory and sweet Czech-inspired kolache pastry filled with fruits, meats, and cheeses. They also offer small batch, custom roasted Katz Coffee, as well as hot chocolate, croissants, and muffins.

Tustin Family Brings Kolaches to Cali

Ted and Kathy Skaff bought the rights to franchise the Kolache Factory in Orange County back in 2013 and opened their first store in Tustin the same year. The Tustin store has consistently been one of the strongest locations in the franchise system as Californians embraced the semi-sweet dough balls with deliciousness stuffed inside.

The Skaff’s have been patiently waiting for a good location and the right timing to expand and they found that in the Bolsa Avenue location with good street frontage and easy access to the 405 Fwy in the bustling Huntington Beach community. 

“We feel good about opening a new location right now. Our Tustin store has proven to be pandemic proof as we are mainly a grab-and-go model. We are fortunate to have a good staff in place in Tustin, and some team members have gladly accepted positions to open Huntington Beach, so we haven’t had any staffing issues,” said Ted Skaff, Kolache Factory franchise owner.

Kolache Factory Chief Operating Officer Dawn Nielsen is thrilled to see the Skaff family expand in Orange County and make the family business her parents founded more than 35 years ago, their own.
