National Kolache Day Celebrates Ultimate Comfort Food Amidst Pandemic
Kolache Factory Offers Free Kolaches and a $1K Giveaway to Celebrate the Iconic Kolache
(February 10, 2021) – Kolache Factory, a fast-growing bakery-café franchise that serves up the ultimate pandemic comfort food — a Czech-inspired stuffed pastry called the kolache — is preparing to give away thousands of free kolaches to its legions of loyal fans on March 1, affectionately known as National Kolache Day. That’s right, every customer at every store nationwide can celebrate National Kolache Day with a free fruit or cream cheese kolache on March 1 from open to close (6 a.m.–2 p.m.) or while supplies last.
The nearly year-long pandemic has taken its toll on everyone and has led to a comfort food comeback! According to a poll of 2,000 Americans, two of three are eating more comfort food during the pandemic, with the average person eating comfort meals five times a week and comfort snacks six times a week.
Kolache Factory’s grab-n-go, handheld pastry that can be stuffed with cheeses, meats, or sweets, has turned out to be the perfect pandemic food for families. According to loyal customers, it achieves a culinary trifecta during trying times, including:
· Comfort of a warm, sweet yeast dough with a variety of sweet and savory fillings, making it suitable for any meal and all palates
· Ready-to-eat (easy to freeze) pastry that can be used as any meal or snack
· Low price point, making it an inexpensive meal or treat
New COVID-19 protocols have also made it easier than ever for folks to order ahead and get in and out of the stores quickly and safely.
“We’ve been working so hard this past year to serve our guests safely, and we appreciate their loyalty,” says Kolache Factory COO Dawn Nielsen. We are so excited to thank them on our favorite day of the year — National Kolache Day! We will be prepping thousands of pounds of soft, sweet dough and sweet, gooey fillings to give away as many kolaches to as many people as we can on March 1.”
Kolache Factory is also celebrating by giving a $50 gift card bonus to 20 lucky fans who help spread kolache love on social media in Kolache Factory’s 2021 $1K Giveaway!

Still don’t know what a kolache is? Here’s a recap:
Kolaches, pronounced koh-lah-chees, were born in Czechoslovakia centuries ago when a young girl nabbed some soft, sweet bread dough from her mom, added plums and tossed it in the oven. Her dad grabbed one for a snack and when he took a bite, the hot plum juice made him circle like a wheel in delight. The Czech word for wheel is “kola” — so the kolache was born. It became a tasty and beloved treat throughout Eastern Europe and arrived in America in the 1850s when Czech settlers came to Texas. By the 1900s, the Czech immigrants were holding yearly celebrations to honor their beloved culinary treat — the kolache.
It didn’t take long for kolaches to get a Texan twist, so now the sweet pastries are filled with savory meats, cheeses and spices, perfect as an on-the-go snack for any meal. Kolache Factory has taken the iconic Texan delicacy and made it available from coast to coast.
About the Kolache Factory
Kolache Factory was founded in 1982 in Houston, Texas, by John and Jerri Banks, who identified a need for a fresh, high-quality breakfast that could be eaten “on the run.” The Bankses encouraged consumers to try the high-quality, fresh pastries filled with fruits, meat and cheeses, and soon they were in high demand for business meetings, family breakfasts, on-the-go lunches and afternoon snacks. Kolache Factory has been recognized as one of the Top 5 Drive-Thrus in America by Food Network, one of the fastest-growing companies in Houston, and one of the top 50 foodservice bakeries in the United States by Modern Baking magazine. In addition, Franchise Times magazine recently named Kolache Factory one of the 300 biggest brands in franchising by worldwide sales in 2017. In addition, Entrepreneur magazine named it among the top 200+ food-based franchises in 2019. Kolache Factory is privately owned and operated and headquartered in Katy, Texas.
