HOUSTON’S MOST DELICIOUS FOOD RACE CHALLENGES KOLACHE LOVERS

Third Annual Kolache Factory 5K/10K/1K Pays Homage to a Houston Food Icon

HOUSTON, Texas – (March 2, 2020) – The most delicious food run in the Space City returns to Houston’s Energy Corridor District on Saturday, March 28, with the Kolache Factory 5k/10K/1K! A sold-out event in 2019!

The 3rd Annual Kolache Factory 5K/10k/1k, sponsored by Katy-based Kolache Factory, puts its promise of offering fresh, high-quality kolache pastries “on-the-run,” to the test.

The ‘Challenge’ run is open to 10K runners who will be tasked with eating THREE sausage and cheese kolaches from Kolache Factory at the 3.1-mile mark and then finish the race in 120 minutes or less (20 min./mile).

The ‘Casual’ run is for 5K run/walkers, plus a Kolache Kids Fun Run 1K for ages 12 and under. (One parent per child may run the 1K for free.)

The ‘Virtual’ 5k, otherwise known as the “sleep-in option” is for those who want to earn race swag (medal/shirt/bib/free kolache voucher) without actually showing up at the road race. A virtual runner can run the 5k when and where they want, whether it’s on a treadmill at home, on an out of town business trip, or in their own mind. You can participate from anywhere. This race truly offers something for everyone!

Free kolaches from the Kolache Factory await all at the finish line, as well as a celebratory Saint Arnold beer for participants 21 and older!

“Watching this event grow over the last three years has been so fun,” said Dawn Nielsen, Chief Operating Officer at Kolache Factory, title sponsor of the event. “We love interacting with the community, passing out free kolaches, and working together to support a good cause.”

The Kolache Factory 5K/10K/1K is THE food-themed race to support as it not only pays homage to the Lone Star State’s defining pastry — the kolache, but it also supports individuals and families who have fallen on hard times. A portion of all registration/sponsorship fees will benefit Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM).MAM’s mission is to assure that families and individuals have the means to meet their basic needs to avoid financial crisis and homelessness and enabling long-term self-sufficiency.

“We are so excited to be part of the Kolache Factory Run at the Energy Corridor again this year,” said Sonja Gee, MAM President & CEO.  “Most families who turn to MAM for help live or work in this area.  With the support of the Kolache Factory, Run 365 and the Energy Corridor District, we are able to help these local families move from survival to stability to thriving.   Runners are able to better themselves while helping their neighbors better their lives, as well.  It is truly inspiring.  As a community, we are always stronger together!”
